Travel with Kids
The Southern African countries make fantastic destinations for family holidays. It is safe, most places are easy to travel and Africans love children. Children from young to old will love going on safari, meeting people from different cultures and taking part in the many activities that are offered everywhere. Planning is key, which is where Kukummi will play an important role. Prepare your kids well for the holiday; show them books, apps and dvd’s to familiarize themselves with what they can encounter in Africa. Give them their own camera to take lots of pics, their own animal list to tick off what they have seen and teach them some basic words in the local language. |

What to Wear
Southern Africa is relatively casual. Only at exclusive city hotels and luxury trains you will need something formal to wear. You’ll be comfortable in light, summer-weight clothes most of the time, with neutral colours advised for game drives and walks. Be sure to pack a pair of worn-in hiking boots, a warm jacket for winter, a scarf or versatile kikoi and something with long sleeves and pants against mosquitos in the evenings. |

Make copies of your Documents
No matter how careful you are, something can always go wrong. Keeping both digital and physical copies of your passport, visas, driver’s license, birth certificate, health insurance card, serial numbers, and important phone numbers will make your life a whole lot easier in case of an emergency. |

Keep an open Mind
Always keep an open mind. You are travelling in a different continent from where you live. Food will be different, service will be different, customs will be different, and things will be done differently. Just because something is different doesn’t mean that it is better or worse. By keeping an open mind you will learn more, experience more and enjoy yourself more! |

Don’t forget a Hat
The sun in Africa can be unforgiving. Most activities are outdoor and will have you sitting, standing, driving, cycling or walking in the sun. A good sunscreen lotion is another must-have. You don’t want to spoil your holiday with a painful sunburn. |

What to Tip
Tipping is a subject that every traveller asks about. In Southern Africa it is customary to tip and staff often relies on this bit of extra income. As a rule of thumb, tip 10% on top of the restaurant bill. Furthermore you need to tip the housekeeping and your safari & tour guides. Check with the lodge manager or guesthouse owner what would be the suggested amounts. If you are really happy with a service you can give some more and if you are not, then give a bit less. |

Talk to the Locals
Kukummi gives you lots of information in your personalized handbook, but make it a point to converse with the locals. (Basic) English is widely spoken and you can get great tips on local restaurants, unique little shops, local festivals, special markets etc. Learn from those who live in the country you’re visiting. People enrich your travels even more. |
