This tour allows you to explore the Western Cape and a bit of the Eastern Cape at a relaxed pace. Distances aren’t too big and the variety in landscape and sightseeing is enormous. The tour starts in Cape Town and ends with safaris at Amakhala Game Reserve. And in between? You taste wines in the Cape Winelands, view whales at De Hoop, feel the open spaces of the Karoo, tour the mountains and forests of the Garden Route and experience good food and hospitality in this beautiful part of South Africa.

Day 1-3: Cape TownStart your holiday with 3 wonderful days in Cape Town. There is so much to see and to do! Highlights include the V&A Waterfront, Robben Island, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, the historical inner city, markets and of course Table Mountain. Book a guided walking tour through the city, cycle through the townships or hike up Table Mountain with a guide. Stay in quaint Hout Bay, overlooking the beautiful bay and with the hustle and bustle of the city at short distance. Accommodation suggestion: Amblewood Guesthouse in Hout Bay Day 4 & 5: Cape WinelandsThe famous Cape Winelands are a stone’s throw away from Cape Town and include Stellenbosch, Paarl and Franschhoek. Visit one of the many wine estates, try a tasting and tour the wine cellars. Enjoy a sumptuous picnic in the estate gardens, travel on a historical wine tram or view the Winelands from a hot air balloon! Accommodation suggestion: Augusta Kleinbosch in Paarl Day 6 & 7: De Hoop Nature ReserveDrive one of the most spectacular coastal routes starting at Gordons Bay. En route visit the penguins at Betty’s Bay and sample fresh fish at the fishing village of Hermanus. Your destination is De Hoop Nature Reserve, just past the most southern tip of South Africa at Cape Aghulas. The protected marine reserve offers sea, sand dunes, vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains. Enjoy whale watching in season and feel the wind in your hair while hiking, cycling, quad-biking, doing the Marine Walk or simply relaxing. Accommodation suggestion: Opstal Manor in De Hoop Village Day 8 & 9: OudtshoornTravel inland to the country’s 3rd oldest town of Swellendam for a stroll and cup of coffee. Drive the spectacular Tradouw Pass through the mountains and join the Route 62 all the way to Oudtshoorn. Stop at the small towns of Barrydale, Ladimsith and Calitzdorp where time seems to have stood still. Oudtshoorn is well known for the ostrich farms and Cango Caves. Accommodation suggestion: De Zeekoe Guest Farm Day 10 & 11: Garden RouteYour holiday continues to the Garden Route, which roughly runs from Mossel Bay to the spectacular Tsitsikamma National Park, with Knysna and Plettenberg as its central point. The Knysna Heads and Featherbed Nature Reserve are well worth a visit. Birds of Eden, the Elephant Sanctuary or Tenikwa Animal Rehab all offer great animal interaction. Hike around Tsitiskamma and brave the suspension bridges for spectacular views. Accommodation suggestion: Lily Pond Country House in Nature’s Valley Day 12-14: Amakhala Game ReserveAround lunchtime you are expected at Amakhala Game Reserve, to end of this wonderful holiday with a fabulous wilderness experience. Three glorious days are spend on safari in this beautiful reserve, with rolling hills, the Bushman River and the Big 5. You set out every morning and afternoon in an open safari jeep with ranger to view the animals in their natural surroundings and learn about their behaviour. In between the safaris, enjoy lovely meals at the lodge and relax in a beautiful environment. Accommodation suggestion: Woodburry Tented Camp or Lodge in Amakhala Game Reserve Day 15: Port ElizabethEnjoy a last morning game drive in the bush at Amakhala. Take some more pictures of the amazing wildlife, experience another fabulous sunrise and end your stay with a hearty breakfast. It’s time to drive yourself to Port Elizabeth airport, where you hand in your car and board the plane for your flight home. |
